A superb start to the 2020 ski season

A superb start to the 2020 ski season

Firstly, we would like to wish everyone a Happy New Year and welcome everyone back to the new term! We hope you’re all feeling refreshed after the Christmas break.

It’s been a glorious start to the 2019/20 ski season in the Alps, with many suggesting that it has been one of the most impressive starts to the season in recent years.

Here’s a quick update on how it’s looking for our school ski groups heading out over the next month…

Austria

Obertauern SnowIt’s been another great week in Austria with plenty of bright blue skies after the pre-Christmas snow. Fresh snow is forecast to fall over the next couple of days, adding to the already plentiful amounts - with as much as up to 20cm forecast for Zell Am See!

This time last year, Austria received record-breaking amounts of snowfall, could we be in for a new record this January? Time will tell…

France

France is being spoilt with gorgeous, sunny conditions this week, with plenty of snow across the board. The pistes are very consistent and many have been groomed to perfection, with great access to the Milky Way ski circuit into Italy.

The current weather forecast is showing a week of bluebird skies across the French resorts with chilly conditions, so if you’re heading out this week make sure to slap on the sun cream or be prepared to come back with some fashionable panda eyes.

Italy

Passo Tonale in Italy got off to a great start in 2019, by revealing its base depth was as deep as 400cm, making it the deepest in the world during November.

Not as much snow has been forecasted this week in Italy, however, the resorts we offer, including destinations such as Folgarida, Folgaria and Claviere are all showing exceptional snow conditions with up to 7cm of fresh snow over the upcoming week.

Andorra / Spain

Across the France-Spanish border, the snow conditions have continued to improve across the Pyrenees. As a result, the majority of its bases are above the meter mark, and a large number of the runs are excitingly now open in preparation for the upcoming half term.

USA

Killington SnowAcross the pond and over to the big ol’ USA, it’s been a slower start to the season, but things have really picked up over the New Year, with heavy snowfall across California over the last week and the Rockies receiving a fresh layer.

There’s plenty of bluebird skies across both the West and East Coast, with Mammoth Mountain currently reporting USA’s deepest base at an impressive 2.3 metres.

Canada

Following similar conditions to the US, temperatures have continued to drop in the Canadian Rockies. Some of our most popular resorts, including Mont Sainte Anne and Jasper, have received fresh snow over the weekend, with more forecast later in the week.

This superb start to the ski season means we are already set up for a truly amazing (and maybe record-breaking) 2020, and we look forward to welcoming more school groups over the next couple of months.

Here’s to another great winter, we hope to see you out here on the slopes.
