British schoolboys and schoolgirls races 2018

British schoolboys and schoolgirls races 2018

In January, we were once again proud to be a part of the British Schoolgirls’ Races in Flaine, France and the British Schoolboys’ Races in Wengen, Switzerland.

This was our second year taking part as a sponsor of both events and as the UK’s leading school ski trip provider, we recognise the importance of developing young people in sport and helping young skiers achieve their dreams.

Equity representatives were at both events helping out. Read on to find out more!

The British Schoolgirls’ Races 2018

Winner of the Edge awards at the British Schoolgirl races 2018

The British Schoolgirls’ Races 2018 consisted of over 160 schoolgirls from 35 schools who took part in race training, a Giant Slalom timed race, a head-to-head team Parallel Slalom and a technical Slalom race followed by prize giving.

Our staff members Bill and Ruaridh once again attended the races. The level of competition was exceptional; at the head to head Parallel Slalom there were photo finishes as some of the relay races were so close, and at the technical Slalom race, competitors faced 48 turns in under 60 seconds and a vertical drop of 120m!

At the prize giving ceremony we presented the EDGE Skills for Life Award to Anastasia Drummond from Wimbledon High for her amazing organisation and perseverance in getting her team to the races. Here she is accepting her award with a timely photobomb by her team mates!

U16 Parallel Champions

The British Schoolboys’ Races are run by the Downhill Only Ski Club (DHO) and took place on the Lauberhorn piste in Wengen, Switzerland. There were 150 race participants this year and our staff members Jonny and Chris were at the event.

Races here included the Lucy Dicker Parallel Slalom event on the Figeller Slope which took place at night under floodlights! There were also slalom and giant slalom races where teams and individuals are represented. The level of competition was once again at an incredibly high level and everyone was very impressed with the talent of the young skiers.

Here’s a picture of the U16 Parallel Champions from Reed’s School in Surrey, in their new ski team jackets, supported by Equity.

We'd like to thank both event organisers of the boys and girls races, the other sponsors and of course all of the entrants and schools who participated. We had a fantastic time supporting the young athletes.
