Having worked for many years with Equity coordinating school ski trips, I know just how important IV's are for party leaders and for Equity staff. It's a great chance for us to meet party leaders face-to-face and to give them an in-depth look at what our Club hotel programme has to offer groups.
Five members of the Equity Ski Team, along with a group of 27 teachers and friends, departed from Manchester and Stansted airports on the 7th April. Over the next 5 days we would visit four of our Equity Club properties in Montgenèvre, Le Corbier, Serre Chevalier and Risoul, skiing in each resort.
For the duration of the trip we would be based at the fantastic Equity Club Les Rois Mages in Montgenèvre, right across from the slopes! After we arrived in resort we split into two ability groups, a local ESF (Ecole du Ski Francais) instructor took one group on a two hour guided tour, and myself and another of the Ski Specialist team, Jordan, took the others for a tour of the mountain. The weather was slightly overcast with low visibility, but conditions were extremely good considering the time of year. After lunch there was time for more skiing and everyone enjoyed the first day. For a lot of the group it was there first time skiing in a while so was good to get their ski legs back! That evening the hotel reps put on a quiz night which was the perfect end to our first day.
The second day was spent at Le Corbier, a resort in the vast Les Sybelles ski region. We arrived in resort for about 11am and went straight out on the slopes. Again the weather was overcast, but visibility was a lot better than the day before. Snow conditions again were good. After lunch at the hotel we were greeted and given a tour of Equity Club Le Mont Corbier by the staff. After that it was a free ski time for those who wanted to go further afield into the large ski area that Le Corbier offers. Others had a chance to ski with a local ESF instructor who guided a group around the mountain.
The next day the group visited Serre Chevalier, one of the best resorts in France. The group inspected the Club Olympic hotel in the village of Chantemerle. It is ideally located on a quiet cul-de-sac next door to the telecabine ratier lift. After the hotel inspection visit it was out on the slopes again. The weather started out overcast, with low visibility higher up and snow falling. Snow conditions were very good with fresh snow falling on the groomed runs. Everyone enjoyed the fresh snow and as we were coming down for lunch the sun came out! The afternoon was great, the sun was out and plenty of fresh snow on and off the piste.
The last resort we visited was Risoul. We immediately took a tour of the Equity Club Le Morgan. After the hotel visit, I took a group over to explore Vars, the neighbouring resort and part of the Foret Blanche ski area. Snow was really good here, probably the best of the whole trip. After lunch it was another free ski time and most people stayed skiing to the very last lift, trying to get the last of the skiing of the year!
Overall, the Equity Easter Group Ski Inspection Visit went well and the snow conditions were superb for this time of the year. The whole group had a great time and it was a perfect send-off to an incredible ski season. "
