The Results Are in for the ESSKIA National Championships Finals

esskia finalsIt’s been a super busy weekend for some of the Equity employees, with four of our team completing the Mont Ventoux Challenge in France for charity and then two of them: Simon and Chris heading all the way back to Norfolk Dry Ski Slope in Norwich to help some of our ski specialists and Travel Advisors at the ESSKIA (English Schools’ Ski Association) National Championships Finals.

We were one of the sponsors at this year’s National Championships Finals spread across two days, supporting over 300 school athletes in four age group categories – under 12s, under 14s, under 16s and under 19s.

The young athletes at the finals representing their schools had qualified based on their performances at six previous qualifying races across the country.

The races consist of two runs over the same slalom course at Norfolk Snowsports Club. The winning team score is the aggregate of the best three times for each run.

On the Saturday, the under 12s and 14s took to the slopes for the first set of races. Whilst the young athletes waited for their turn, we thought it was time to unleash our new polar bear mascot on the masses. We were very pleased to see many of the athletes flocked over to him straight away, wanting to take a picture or perhaps see which member of the Equity team was inside!

Another surprise we had in store for the athletes was the appearance of Equity ambassador and four-time Winter Olympian Chemmy Alcott. The kids quickly got in line to take her autograph and selfies. Throughout the day Chemmy also offered tips to the aspiring young Olympians as they completed their races.

The heavens opened on the second day of the finals but it didn’t dampen the spirits of the under 16s and 19s. Reed’s School sponsored by Equity were competing in many of the categories on day two and it was also the day the Most Improved Team of 2019 Equity award would be handed out by Chemmy.
