Featured Resort: Myrkdalen, Norway

Skiing in Norway is a unique winter experience, offering a different atmosphere from Alpine and Northern American resorts.

myrkdalen ski2Renowned for its breathtaking landscape, Myrkdalen, situated in the district of Voss, is just two hours’ away from Bergen International Airport and is one of the most snow sure ski resorts in Norway, with an annual snowfall of more than 5 metres.

Myrkdalen opened its first ski lift in January 2003 and since then the resort has benefited from ongoing investment, including the construction of the four-star Myrkdalen Hotel in 2012, apartments with a sports shop, ski rental and ski school in 2013, and a 6-seater express lift in 2014.

The resort is excellent for beginner and intermediate skiers, with the largest beginner area in western Norway. It also has a superb ski school and an excellent selection of blue and red ski slopes spread across the resort. For advanced skiers and boarders there are a good starting selection of black runs available, as well as cross-country trails and three terrain parks.

You may want to combine your ski trip with an excursion to either Bergen, a coastal city with colourful, traditional wooden buildings along the old wharf, or a visit to the UNESCO listed Nærøyfjord – one of the world’s most scenic and dramatic fjords.

Even during the summer months Myrkdalen is renowned across Norway as an adventure haven. Many Scandinavians flock to the mountains to take part in activities such as hiking, kayaking and mountain biking.
