Ski Serre Chevalier - Briancon

Europe’s highest Alpine town Briançon is known for its maze of medieval streets, friendly atmosphere and World Heritage landmarks. Distinct from other ski resorts, this working town has a local theatre, choice of cinemas and several museums – one specialising in ski history. France’s first ski school was established here in 1902 and the ancient old town is a historic place for students to explore, with its sundials, cobbled streets and UNESCO-listed walls.

After a day on the slopes, there’s plenty to keep your group entertained. Students love the waterfalls and slides at the indoor fun pool, or you could cheer on a team at the local ice-hockey rink. There’s also sightseeing and shopping in the town itself, plus a choice of in-house activities, from group games and discos to relaxing film nights.

Skiing

Briançon’s ski area sits in a south-facing valley beneath stunning peaks in the Ecrins National Park. Set at the far end of the Serre Chevalier piste network, it has a reputation for sunny weather. Perfect for beginners and intermediates, there are easy greens to practice your turns on, while the challenging ‘Vauban’ red run brings confident skiers all the way back into town.

At higher altitude, the views are breathtaking and, with greens and blues above the tree line, even beginners can enjoy the best scenery. Lower down, tree-lined slopes meander through a beautiful, protected forest area.

Accommodation

Club Olympic

  • 250km of piste
  • Central location in the heart of the famous resort of Serre Chevalier
  • Fantastic communal areas including a sun terrace
  • Dedicated Club Customer Service staff
  • Free WiFi access in all communal areas for party leaders

Capacity: 135

The hotel is ideally situated on a quiet cul-de-sac in Serre Chevalier Chantermerle, next door to the brand new telecabine ratier lift, which will take you to the main ski area - excellent for beginner skiers as they are able to get up the mountain and back down in safety. The ski area of Serre Chevalier is a bit of a hidden secret. Regularly rated in the top 10 in Europe, it has a superb mix of high alpine motorway skiing, tree runs, gentle plateaus as well as Olympic standard pistes. Entertainment including a bowling alley, ice rink, local shops, restaurants and bars are all conveniently within 5-10 mins walking distance from the Club.

Bedrooms are located across three floors and all have full en-suite facilities. The majority of rooms accommodate 3-6 students. Adults are accommodated in twin, double or triple rooms. We strive to ensure that individual groups are roomed close together, making supervision much easier. The hotel facilities include a large reception, dining and relaxing lounge area with a private bar and a sun terrace overlooking the Luc Alphand piste and the ski area.

Breakfast: Your buffet breakfast includes cereal, croissants, breads, cold meats and cheeses and a selection of jams.

Lunch: Lunch is a buffet or two courses, perhaps soup or pasts followed by dessert, cheese or fruit.

OTHER FRENCH SCHOOL SKI TRIPS

Ski Pra Loup

Set in the Southern Alps, Pra Loup’s sunny weather, laid back vibe and family friendly focus make it a great choice for school ski trips. A purpose-built resort made up of two villages, Pra Loup 1600 has a good choice of shops and cafes, while Pra Loup 1500 is more peaceful. The Espace Lumière ski area has been well designed to maximise your ski time and, When each ski day is done, there’s the local ice-rink and cinema to enjoy, as well as plenty of après-ski activities to keep your group entertained.

More popular with French families than English crowds, Pra Loup also gives school groups an opportunity to immerse themselves in the local culture and brush up on their language skills, while the low-key nightlife means that everyone can get a good night’s sleep.

Skiing

Pra Loup’s ski area appeals to all abilities. The village-level nursery slopes are a relaxing place to get started and, when it’s time to progress, a network of blues sweeps from the top of the mountain down to Pra Loup 1600.

Experienced skiers have plenty of reds and the odd black run to challenge themselves on, while the resort’s long open pistes provide ample space to progress. Reliable snowfall and some France’s best snowmaking facilities keep the pistes topped up all season, and the low-level tree runs makes skiing back to base easier in bad weather.

andalo

Perched on a plateau with a view of Lake Garda, Andalo’s stunning setting gets school groups excited from the word go. A chance to immerse your students in Italian culture, Andalo has a rich mountain heritage and stacks of traditional charm, so they can look forward to experiencing daily life in rural Italy and learning a little Italian in the local shops.

Andalo’s modern lifts speed you around the ski area and the manicured slopes lead directly into the village, making it easy for your students to regroup. Students with plenty of energy love speeding along the long runs above the tree line, cruising down the forest tracks and racing across the open snowy plateau back to the village. After an exciting day on the mountain, it’s time to refuel with big bowls of spaghetti before going ice-skating at the ice rink or swimming at the ACQUAIN centre.

Skiing

Beginners have both village-level and higher altitude slopes to master the basics on, and meticulous piste grooming means your students can learn in confidence without worrying about the longest run down.

Extensive snowmaking keeps the slopes in top-notch condition all season long, and advanced skiers can put their nerves to the test on the challenging black Olimpica piste.

OTHER ITALIAN SCHOOL SKI TRIPS

sestriere

The Italian Alps’ first purpose-built resort, Sestriere’s slopes sit just above the tree line and are part of the enormous Milky Way ski circuit. Our groups love the great location, huge choice of ski areas and laid-back atmosphere in the village, which has a cosmopolitan feel and great pastry shops. When the ski lifts close for the day, there’s plenty going on with après-ski activities.

Chosen as a host for the 2006 Winter Olympics, Sestriere’s championship slopes are a great source of motivation. One of Italy’s highest resorts, it also has a reputation for great snow, with the north-facing slopes holding their snow particularly well.

The Olympic legacy in Sestriere and the Milky Way is clear to see – significant investment has left a first-class lift-system linking Sestriere with nearby Pragelato, Sauze d’Oulx and Sansicario plus a wide-reaching snowmaking system, whilst new hotels and amenities can be found throughout the pedestrianised villages of the ski area.

Groups receive the Milky Way lift-pass with a one-day extension to the neighbouring French resort Montgenèvre included free.

Skiing

Sitting in a snowy bowl in the centre of the Milky Way circuit, Sestriere’s pistes suit a range of abilities but hold the most scope for intermediate skiers. Guided by enthusiastic instructors, beginners can learn to snow plough on the local slopes near the village, while intermediates skiers can try the more challenging blues and reds.

The resort’s wide pistes are great for cruising along, and there are a couple of fantastic wooded runs nearer the village. For your strongest skiers, the World Cup giant slalom is a source of inspiration.

OTHER ITALIAN SCHOOL SKI TRIPS

Vallnord - some images courtesy of the Andorra Tourist Board, with whome we are proud to be working in partnership

An outstanding choice for school groups the Vallnord area encompasses almost 100km of high-altitude skiing across two very different ski resorts – Arinsal and Arcalis. Like many resorts in the Pyrenees, Vallnord has benefitted from recent investment and modernisation.

This great value ski domain gives a great choice of resort bases for schools. The village of La Massana has a peaceful atmosphere and, with the town of Arinsal, both settings put the lift-linked ski areas of Pal and Arinsal on your doorstep. The city’s old town is characterised by old stone streets and the town square offers stunning view of the Valley of Andorra below, not to mention hosting a series of events throughout the year.

Schools love the sense of freedom here, and the gentle slopes give a perfect introduction to new skiers. Local investments mean the lifts are modern and efficient. After a day on the hill, the swimming pool, bowling alley and tax-free shops of Andorra la Vella are an easy drive away, or our team is at the ready with in-house quizzes and team games.

Skiing

Magic-carpet lifts carry first-timers to the nursery slopes, where Vallnord’s friendly instructors can start them off with the basics of stopping, turning and speed control. Gentle tree-lined slopes are great for guiding your pupils back down the mountain, while the wide open faces give them plenty of room for perfecting their turns.

More able skiers can learn new skills and remind themselves of the basics on Pal’s network of greens and blues before progressing to the higher altitude reds or linking across to the sunny slopes of Arinsal.

OTHER ANDORRAN SCHOOL SKI TRIPS

Grandvalira - some images courtesy of the Andorra Tourist Board, with whome we are proud to be working in partnership

Grandvalira is an extensive ski destination naturally split into two ski areas connected by a sophisticated lift system. The areas of Pas De La Casa, Grau Roig and Encamp resorts are much-loved and some of the highest in the Pyrenees, all boast stunning views and beautiful runs, which flow all the way down to Lake Pessons. The city centre, Andorra la Vella is easy to access from Encamp, an exciting location for evening entertainment.

Soldeu, El Tarter and Canillo are well connected with a fantastic and fast lift system, offering immense skiing opportunities as well as fast and easy access to the slopes. Fluent English-speaking ski instructors encourage each individual to meet their potential.

Cafés, bars and restaurants are focused in the main ski areas, making this ski circuit a hugely convenient place for school groups to ski. Each of the villages in resort offers its own activities so there’s plenty to choose from including thermal baths, swimming, bowling, taxfree shopping and of course the traditional disco.

Ski Trip to Grandvalira

School ski video from: Roedean School

Andorra is a beautiful destination to take your students skiing. See for yourself and watch this great video from Roedean school who travelled with Equity during February half-term. With blue skies and plenty of snow you can’t go wrong when choosing Grandvalira for your school ski trip.

Skiing

Once ready to hit the slopes, confident beginners and intermediates are spoilt for choice - Soldeu and El Tarter offer a fantastic choice of blue and red runs from the highest point in resort at 2,560m, right down to the village centres, whilst Grau Roig and Pas de la Casa both feature a good selection of blues and reds, not to mention some steeper and more challenging runs down from the ridge.

Advanced skiers will have blast here – with plenty of mileage and a fully inter-linked ski-lift system it’s easy to travel from resort to resort and sample a little of everything, from the tree-lined runs in lower Soldeu and towards El Tarter, to the open face of Pas de la Casa.

Grandvalira Ski Circuits

Granvalira is an extensive ski destination so we have split the area into two ski circuits to ensure your booking meets the needs of your group. You will be placed in accommodation that has the best access to this area. Our ski specialists will recommend a circuit based on your requirements, or you can let us know your preference upon enquiry.

Grandvalira, Ski Circuit 1

Circuit one includes the areas: Encamp, Pas De La Casa & Grau Roig. Dedicated nursery slopes and a separate learners’ zone allows first timers to practice at their own pace, while more experienced skiers have a balance of blues and reds to choose from.

Grandvalira, Ski Circuit 2

Circuit two includes the areas:Soldeu, El Tarter & Canillo. Offering great variety, this ski area has a good combination of wide, open slopes and sheltered wooded runs.

School Skiing in Austria

Austria boasts quaint guest houses with traditional menus, picturesque mountain scenery and incredibly friendly ski schools. As a destination for school ski trips, Austria ticks all the boxes. Your group can expect wide slopes, tree-lined runs, and quiet lifts where high altitude resorts ensure great snow. Plus, Austria is renowned for its warm welcomes and fun-filled après-ski.

Ski-schools in Austria are well-known for their friendliness and flexibility, and one of the great features of Austrian tuition is that the instructors aren’t booked into other lessons during your breaks, meaning they can be extra flexible with regards to any special requests during the week. The modern lift systems throughout Austria make it easy and comfortable to get around the resorts.
