It's more than a 'jolly'

To dispel misconceptions that it’s ’just a jolly’ demonstrate how students can benefit from a ski trip:

  • Builds resilience and determination through professional ski instruction and peer support
  • Great opportunity for social and personal development by being away from home
  • Develops their natural curiosity and ability to think critically
  • Possibility of practising language skills
  • Trying new experiences, conquering fears and raising aspirations

Trips provide curriculum justification

With many trips staffed by teachers from other departments, building your ski trip into classroom learning across subjects should be easy!

Not only will it add impact, it will also demonstrate a cross-curricular approach to SLT. Why not consider:

  • MFL: recognising and using the written and spoken word in real-life situations to improve communication skills
  • Maths: compass bearings, currency and exchange rates
  • Science: energy transfers, forces, motion, velocity, skeletal and muscular system
  • Art and Design: sketching, photography
  • Design and Technology: ski wear design, form and function
  • ICT: using video to capture moments and editing footage into a presentation
  • Geography: unique weather conditions, map reading
  • PE: taking part in an outdoor, adventurous activity and improving on performance

Give parents/carers plenty of time to save

Having a longer payment plan for parents/carers makes finances more manageable and allows a greater number of students to participate in such a unique experience. Some schools organise fundraising events to reduce parental contributions further. Planning ahead is easy, with Equity Ski taking bookings into 2021 already.

Travel in term-time

There are many benefits to travelling outside of school holidays:

    • Lower prices – the trip is more affordable and therefore accessible to more students
    • Shorter lift pass queues – less time waiting, more time skiing
    • Quieter slopes – more open space for beginners to learn with confidence
    • Greater choice of resort and accommodation available
    • Fill a coach and benefit from an enhanced free place ratio (1:7)*

Putting it into real terms, if you travel in March to Sestriere with Equity Ski it’s £550 per person cheaper than if you were to travel in February half term!

Add in a city stopover

Adding a city stopover always boosts student interest and provides an opportunity for cross-curricular learning. For example, book an American ski trip and you could combine a stopover in Boston, New York or Los Angeles; in Norway you can stop in Bergen or combine with a fjords experience; or take time out in Salzburg as part of an Austrian ski trip.

Celebrate achievements together

Use the ski slopes to reinforce and develop life skills through the EDGE Skills for Life programme. Developed in consultation with four-time Olympian Chemmy Alcott, students are encouraged to demonstrate skills in the following areas, with certificates awarded on the last evening of the trip:

  • Resilience and motivation
  • Leadership and commitment
  • Teamwork and trust
  • Fairness and respect
  • Responsibility and personal best
  • Collaborating and communicating
