At the end of January, we were part of the British Schoolgirls’ Races held in Flaine, France and the British Schoolboys’ Races held in Wengen, Austria. This was our first year taking part as a sponsor. As the UK’s leading school ski trip provider, we are passionate about the development of young people in sport and we want to help young skiers achieve their dreams.
We had Equity representatives at both events to help out and be of assistance to the teachers and students taking part. At the events we presented an EDGE award, acknowledging students who had demonstrated the life skills learnt from skiing. Read on to find out more!
Over two days over 150 girls from 31 schools across the UK competed in the British Schoolgirls’ Races 2017. All of the entrants showed determination and strength whether they were new to racing or had been competing for a number of years. The full results can be found online here >>
Our staff members Bill and Ruaridh were lucky enough to attend the races and kept us up to date straight from the event.
At the prize giving ceremony we presented the EDGE award to: Francesca Henniker Gotley, from Francis Holland School
Her nomination read: "Francesca lost both her parents in the Italian earthquake last August. She has shown incredible bravery and determination, continuing to study hard and was adamant about coming to the British Schoolgirls’ Races again this year. Fran we are so proud of you."
The British Schoolboys’ Races have been running since 1999 to complement the Schoolgirl’s races. There were 24 school teams represented with 143 race participants. More information about the races can be found here >>
Our staff members Jonny and Simon headed to the event and helped with the overall facilitation of the event. They were very impressed with the talent of the young skiers and presented an EDGE Award on the final evening.
At the prize giving ceremony we presented the EDGE award to: Matteo Pangherz, from Stowe School
His coach nominated him for the award: "as the youngest member of our team and the most anxious about entering, Matteo has been fully committed to getting the best out of his training and racing*. He is the first to volunteer, is impeccably polite and even led a group warm up for several schools at the start of the slalom."
We'd like to take the opportunity to thank the event organisers, the other sponsors and of course all of the entrants and schools who participated. We had a fantastic time supporting our young athletes.
